Question:

 

Is there any special age, in which one should make circumcision for once child ?

 

 

In the name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

 

Answer:

 

There is no specific age for it to be done. Obviously, the earlier it is done, the less painful it is and recovery time is faster.

 

Ibn ‘Abbās RA was asked: “How old were you when the Prophet ﷺ died?” He replied: “At that time I had been circumcised. At that time, people did not circumcise the boys till they attained the age of puberty.” Sa’id bin Jubair said: “Ibn ‘Abbās said: “When the Prophet ﷺ died, I had already been circumcised.” [Sahih al-Bukhārī: Hadith 6299] [1]

 

Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ said: “Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra: circumcision, shaving the pubic region, clipping the nails and cutting the moustaches short.” [Sahīh al-Bukhārī: Hadith 5889; Sahīh al-Muslim: Hadith 257; Sunan an-Nasā’ī: Hadith 5042] [2]

 

Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ said: “The Prophet Ibrāhīm AS circumcised himself after he had passed the age of eighty years and he circumcised himself with an adze.” [Sahīh al-Bukhārī: Hadith 6298] [3]

 

There are numerous more narrations and accounts of a number of Sahābah who were circumcised at a full range of ages. It is permissible to have it done at any age.
