Question:
Sometimes my vaginal discharge is white & sometimes it’s light yellow in the day and it’s white at night. So is a light yellow discharge pure? Does it break Wudu? I don’t know if a light yellow is my normal discharge.
Can I combine prayers due to the light yellow discharge if it breaks wudu & is impure? Sometimes it has light yellow spots in the white discharge. Is it pure?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Women have 4 types of discharges.
- Clear or White Discharge:
It is a normal discharge whose purpose is to lubricate the vagina. It is usually clear or white in colour. So, if it exits the vaginal opening then it invalidates wudu.
- Yellowish or Greenish Discharge:
This may occur before or after menstruation or due to illness or infection. If it occurs outside the menstrual period, it invalidates wudu but does not require ghusl. If it appears during menstruation, it is considered as menstrual blood.
- Red or Brownish Discharge:
Red indicates fresh blood (related to menstruation or injury). Brown often indicates old menstrual blood. If it occurs during menstruation or nifas (postnatal bleeding), ghusl is wajib when the bleeding stops. If it occurs outside menstruation, it invalidates wudu but does not require ghusl unless associated with sexual arousal.
- Cloudy or Milky White Discharge:
This is sometimes associated with ovulation or the end of menstruation. If it occurs outside menstruation, it invalidates wudu but does not require ghusl. If it signals the end of menstruation, it indicates purity and requires ghusl.
Lastly, if you get discharges often then you are an excuse person and you can do ablution for each salah but can not combine salah.
It is narrated by Abdullah (b. ‘Umar) reported: I have never seen Allah’s Messenger but observing the prayers at their appointed times except two prayers, sunset and ‘Isha, ‘ at Muzdalifa (where he deferred the sunset prayer to combine it with ‘Isha’ and he observed the dawn prayer before its stipulated time on that day (10th of Dhu’l-Hijja).
