Question:
If I wish to put on thick lotion on my feet after wudhu, can I wear khuffain / leather /wudhu socks on top and wipe over them for the next few wudhu’s to avoid having to wash the lotion on my feet?
Would my wudhu be valid if I’m wearing the socks solely for the purpose of not having to wash the feet lotion?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
The wearing of khuff i.e. leather socks is permissible in Islam if some conditions are met:
- A person must perform wudu before wearing the socks.
- The socks worn are made of thick material such as leather or thick material and water cannot go through.
- If you are not a traveller, you can wipe over your socks for 24 hours after which you would need to remove them and perform wudu again before wearing them. If a person is a traveller, he can wipe over these socks for 72 hours
There is no intention required for doing masah on your khuff so therefore whatever reason a person has worn them for, be it to avoid washing the lotion of one’s feet or for comfort etc it is permissible providing the conditions are met.
Therefore, it is permissible to wear socks for the sole purpose of not having to wash off the lotion form the feet, and the wudu will be valid.
