Question:
I’m a doctor and I have been giving professional exams to start my medical journey in UK. In previous three attempts of the same exam I have failed by nominal margin like 1 or 2 marks maximum. In almost all of these exams, I was quite sure that I almost did everything correct yet I failed by one or two marks. My wife is a doctor, even she was convinced that you will pass easily this time.
My relative asked some alim even without my consent or knowledge and that alim said someone in his paternal side has “nazar” on me
I tried to offer regular salah in Ramadan. Even went to umrah before Ramadan. Pleaded infront of Allah while in rawdah. Even gave me written exams in a state of fasting.
Could you please guide me what is the matter. My mother, wife, siblings are extremely saddened by this constant marginal failures.
I’m not considered if it is nazar or something else
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
You should not pay any attention to these accusations against your relatives regarding nazar. A Muslim should not assume anything negative of another person, especially without clear cause. Assumptions and suspicions regarding others are seeds which rob a person of their peace of mind and cause the deterioration of relations between people. Allah (swt) says in the Qur’an:
“O you who believe, avoid much of the [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful.” Surah Al-Hujurat (49:12)
Whilst nazar is a part of our reality, it is not the cause of life’s disappointments and one should not use it to blame others. The effects of nazar are more medical rather than worldly, and can only affect us if Allah (swt) wills. Allah (swt) has given us the cure to nazar through reciting the last 3 surahs of the Qur’an (Surahs Ikhlas, Falaq & Naas) and Ayat al-Kursi.
As for your medical examinations, continue to make abundant du’a, zikr and other forms of worship. Have patience and make sincere repentance (istighfar). You can perform 2 rakah Salatul Hajat and ask Allah for relief from your difficulties and fulfilment of your needs. You should also recite the Qur’an in abundance and pray Istikharah, sincerely asking Allah (swt) for guidance in this issue and making du’a for Allah (swt) to do what is best for you. All matters are with Allah (swt) and regardless of how things turn out, know that Allah (swt) does what is best for us and that the Hereafter is our true goal in life. It may be the case that Allah (swt) is saving you from a greater harm through this, or that this is a means for which you draw closer to Allah (swt). May Allah grant you sabr and sakinah.
“And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record.” Surah Al-An’am (6:59)
Only Allah (عز و جل) knows best.
