Question:
I have recently contacted a company and they have said that a product (chocolate block) is vegetarian and does not contain any alcohol however, it is not halal suitable. When asked how this can be, they said that it may be something in the manufacturing process, but their supplier has told them it’s not halal suitable.
What is the ruling on this case, and if one has been cooking in the kitchen with this product does everything it has touched and not been washed correctly become Najis?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
As the manufacturers have declared that the item is not suitable for a halal diet, we can safely conclude that this product is haram for Muslims to consume and must be avoided.
Regarding cross contamination, all utensils which have touched this item should be washed for precaution. Utensils must be washed if the trace of the haram item is found on them. For example, if the haram item has touched a spoon and the spoon has traces of the haram item, then the spoon must be washed until all traces are removed
