Salaam
I would like some advice on new borns.
1) We want to name our child “EESA HAYAT ALI”. Is this a valid name? Hayat Ali is my second name.
Also what is the correct spelling for EESA? Is it spelt as EESA OR ISA?
2) Also am i right to say Adhan in the right ear and iqamah in the other?
In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.
Answer
It is considered Mustahab to call the adhan in the right ear of the newborn and then iqamah in the left ear.
Saaiduna Abu Rafi Radiallahu Anhu has said, “I saw the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam give adhan in the ear of Saaiduna Hasan Radiallahu Anhu the son of Saaiduna Ali, Radiallahu Anhu when Saaidah Fatimah Radiallahu Anha gave birth to him.” (Sunan Tirmizi, Sunan Abi Dawud, Musnad Ahmad, Mustadrak Hakim and Sunan Baihaqi)
Mulla Ali Qari (RA) has written in his ‘Sharhus Sunnah’ that it is reported from Umar bin Abdul Aziz that ‘the Azan used to be called in the right ear and the Iqamah used to be called in the left ear when a child was born.’ Having quoted this, Mulla Ali Qari (RA) said, ‘It has been established in the Musnad of Abu Yala that ‘Whoever calls the Azan in the right ear of a child when he is born, and the Iqamah in the left ear, then the sickness of Um Sibyan would not affect the child.’ This is also mentioned in Jamius Sagheer by Ibn Sunni (Tuhfatul Ahwazi p.91 v.5).
Finally, as the names Isa Hayat Ali are separate names but are being kept together as one name it will be permissible to keep such names. It should be spelt Isa and not Esa.
