Question

A woman could not marry the person she wanted. Now she does not want to marry anyone else. She wants to marry that person in Jannah as she knows that people will get whatever they want in Jannah. If she marries someone else, she will never be able to feel love for her husband or obey him wholeheartedly. It may even cause disobedience on her part. She wants to stay unmarried, not as a form of ibadat, but because of her personal desire. Will she be sinning if she never gets married?

In the name of Allah the most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Answer:

You mentioned that you want to marry so and so in Jannah, but how can you marry him when he is married to someone else? Allah will gather a person with his family and wife in Jannah.

Gardens of perpetual residence; they will enter them with whoever were righteous among their fathers, their spouses, and their descendants. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate, [saying],

سَلَٰمٌ عَلَيْكُم بِمَا صَبَرْتُمْ ۚ فَنِعْمَ عُقْبَى ٱلدَّارِ

"Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home." (13-Ar-Ra'd :23-24)

It is correct that you will get whatever you wish for in Jannah. This is due to the saying of Allah: “And therein is whatever the souls desire and what delights the eyes, and you will abide therein eternally”. (Surah 43 Azzukhruf, ayah 71)

However, this does not mean that whatever you like in this world you will also like it in the hereafter. You will get in Jannah what you never saw, that which you never heard and never thought of.

Allah will give you so much that you will be satisfied with it and you will not wish for the man you loved so much but could not marry him.  Allah will gather you with your family and your spouse and if you do not have a spouse, Allah will give you a spouse whom you will be satisfied with.

You mention that if you marry someone else you will not have a love for them and will not be able to obey them.  You should take into consideration the women companions of the Prophet (P B U H) who lost their husbands whom they dearly loved but, they got married to other men and stayed as husband and wife. The loss of a beloved thing should not keep us away from the command of Allah or the Sunnah of the Prophet (P B U H) or from enjoying our normal life.

Marriage is not only about love, rather it is a Sunnah of the Prophet (P B U H). The Prophet (P B U H) has said “Nikah is from my Sunnah. Whoever does not practice my Sunnah, he is not of me”. (Sunan Ibn Majah, vol. 3,  pg. 567, Hadith no. 1846, Darul Risalah Al-Alamiya)

You will also lose out on many benefits of marriage. One of them is having children and being a cause of increasing the Ummah of the prophet (P B U H). There is great reward in raising pious children. If the children are pious they will be a sadaqah Jariah (continuous charity) for you.

Only Allah knows best.
