Question:

According to the Hanafi school of thought what is the complete step-by-step method of praying 2 rakat of Salatul Kusoof?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Salatul Kusoof is a prayer known as the “eclipse prayer,” which occurs when the moon comes between the sun and Earth. This salah is neither fard (obligatory) nor wajib, but it is sunnah. There is no azan or Iqamah for this salah.

This Salah should be led by the Imam and it will consist of two rakats. Each rakat will have one ruku and two sajdahs. This Salah will be prayed like how we pray any two rakat nafl.

After the Imam does the takbeer and the thanaa to which the muqtadis should follow like how it is done in a normal salah, the imam will recite surah Fatiha and any other surah he likes. Afterwards, the imam will go for ruku and complete the rakat like the normal prayer. The second rakat will be the same as the first.

The Imam will recite silently and he will not recite out loud. However, where there is a danger of the followers becoming bored or losing concentration, one can read loudly. It is preferable for the imam to lengthen his recitation. There is no khutbah for this salah.

Dua should be made after the completion of the salah until the sun fully reappears again.
