Question:

My friend’s camp location may not come under the boundary of muzdalifah, do we have to give damm if that’s the case.

Answer:

Yes, in the case that one’s camp is outside the boundaries of Muzdalifah, it will be as if they missed the stay in Muzdalifah altogether. In that case, a damm will be due on him since staying in Muzdalifah is one of the obligatory rituals.

*Damm: Refers to the slaughtering of a goat, a sheep, a one-seventh part of a cow, or a one-seventh part of a camel within the precincts of the Haram in lieu of certain violations made while performing the rites of Hajj and Umrah.

وَمن ترك السَّعْي بَين الصَّفَا والمروة فَعَلَيهِ دم وحجه تَامّ وَمن أَفَاضَ قبل الإِمَام من عَرَفَات فَعَلَيهِ دم وَمن ترك الْوُقُوف بِالْمُزْدَلِفَةِ فَعَلَيهِ دم وَمن ترك رمي الْجمار فِي الْأَيَّام كلهَا فَعَلَيهِ دم ويكفيه دم وَاحِد

البناية شرح الهداية ٤/‏٣٦٤  

(ومن ترك الوقوف بالمزدلفة فعليه دم؛ لأنه) ش: أي لأن الوقوف بمزدلفة م: (من الواجبات) ش: عندنا، وعند الشافعي ﵀ نفس الوقوف سنة، والمبيت بمزدلفة واجب، واستثني من هذا من جاوزها ليلًا عن علة، أو ضعف، أو خاف الزحام فلا شيء عليه، وقد مرت المسألة.
