Question:

Can jummah be lead if the Muqtadis have already prayed jummah but the imam hasn’t?

In the name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There are 4 conditions of the fulfilment of Salat ul-Jumu’ah;

    • That it be held in a town/city
    • At the time of Salat ul-Zuhr
    • With a 2-part Khutbah (sermons)
    • In a large congregation.

[Al-Hidāyah: volume 1 pages 177-179] [1]

The above conditions must be met for the necessity of Jumu’ah to come into effect. If these points are not found then one should pray Zuhr Salah instead. If the Imām has missed the Jumu’ah Salah for whatever reason, then he should make an effort to attend the Salah at another location, if that is possible. Otherwise, he should pray Zuhr Salah.

Only Allāh Ta’ālā knows best.
