Question:

 

1. If a person believed that children in non-Muslim households were born Muslims and remained Muslims until they believed incorrectly when they became baligh, Would a person who held that belief have committed kufr?

 

2. What is the correct believe about children of non-Muslim households, for example 2/3 years old? Can we say they are Muslims?

Answer:

 

It is correct to say that all children that are born, they born Muslim. All the children of Adam are on the on the Fitrah. When they grow up, then their parents change their religions. This doesn’t constitute of kufr.

 

Small children who didn’t reach the age of maturity they are masoom (innocent). They don’t have the understanding of what they are doing. They will still be in that Fitrah as a Muslim. Allah knows best of their outcome which is unknown to man, if they will be given life they would be successful or wretched.

٤٧١٦ – حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ, حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ, قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ حَمَّادَ بْنَ سَلَمَةَ يُفَسِّرُ حَدِيثَ: «كُلُّ مَوْلُودٍ يُولَدُ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ». قَالَ: هَذَا عِنْدَنَا حَيْثُ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ الْعَهْدَ عَلَيْهِمُ (١) فِي أَصْلَابِ آبَائِهِمْ حَيْثُ قَالَ: {أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ قَالُوا بَلَى}. [ق ٦/ ٢٠٣]

 

فهو دليل على تقدم العلم الذي ينكره غُلاتهم، ومِنْ ثَمَّ قال الشافعي: أهلُ القدَر إن أثبتوا العلم خصموا.

 

٤٧١٦ – (حدثنا الحسن بن علي، نا الحجّاج بن المِنهال قال: سمعت حماد بن سلمة يفسر حديث: كل مولودٍ يُولد على الفطرةِ، قال) حماد بن سلمة: (هذا عندنا حيثُ أخذ الله العهدَ عليهم في أصلاب آبائهم حيث قال: {أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ قَالُوا بَلَى}) (٢).

 

قال الخطابي (٣): معنى قول حماد في هذا أحسن، وكأنه ذهب إلى أنه لا عِبْرة للإيمان الفطري في أحكام الدنيا، وإنما يعتبر الإيمان الشرعي المكتسب بالإرادة والفعل، ألا ترى أنه يقول: “فأَبَواه يُهَوِّدانه وينصِّرانه”، فهو مع وجود الإيمان الفطري فيه محكوم له بحكم أبويه الكافرين.

 

وفيه وجه آخر، ذهب إليه عبد الله بن المبارك حين سئل عنه، فقال: تفسير قوله حين سُئِل عن الأطفال؟ فقال: “الله أعلمُ بما كانوا عاملين”، يريد -والله أعلم- أن كل مولودٍ من البَشَر إنما يُولدُ على فطرته التي جبل عليها من السعادة والشقاوة، وعلى ما سبق له من قدر الله ومشيئته فيه من كفر أو إيمان، فكل منهم صائر في العاقبة إلى ما فطر عليه وخلق له، وعامل في الدنيا بالعمل المشاكل لفطرته في السعادة والشقاوة
