Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

Salam, does doing good deeds cause all your sins to be forgiven? These type of Hadith what do they mean?

Do you stop praying Salah?

Do you disobey your old parents?

Do you start following your evil desires?

Jazakallahukhairan

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

The ahadith which mention ‘all your sins will be forgiven’ are known to be talking about minor sins as major sins can only be forgiven through tawbah (repentance).[1]

Ponder over these ayaat:-

“Then, indeed your Lord, to those who have done wrong out of ignorance and then repent after that and correct themselves – indeed, your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.”[2]

“And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins – and who can forgive sins except Allah? – And [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.”[3]

And Allah SWT alone knows best.
