Question:

In the takbeer tashreeq, some read the Takbir (الله اكبر) twice and others thrice. Any preference for either two with a reference?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

The words of Takbir Tashreeq are:

الله اكبر الله اكبر، لا اله الا الله و الله اكبر الله اكبر و لله الحمد

(Allaahu Akbar is read twice)

Although there are some other narrations, this is the preferred one (Umdatul Qari, Vol 6, Pg 425).

في صفة التكبير : و هو أن يقول مرة واحدة : الله اكبر الله اكبر، لا اله الا الله و الله اكبر الله اكبر و لله الحمد … قول أصحابنا أولي لأن عليه جماعة من الصحابة‏ و التابعين رضي الله تعالي عنهم
