Question

I wanted to ask what one can do in order to get a husband. I mean like prayers etc. can you mention any duas or practices a Woman can read so that she may find a husband. I've been making lots of dua even at iftar time but no luck yet. I'm starting to give up hope & I feel like I'm getting too old soon. In my duas I used to mention 'Allah-grant me a pious husband when the time is right for me' I did that dua for months until recently when I started getting impatient & started saying 'Ya Allah grant me a good pious husband'

If you have any advice regarding this matter it would be much appreciated. Jazakumullah Khair,

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Answer

As Muslims, we believe in Taqdeer. Everything is predestined and in the absolute knowledge of Allah. This includes one’s marriage. Everything will happen according to Taqdeer; whom one will marry and when. Turn to Allah and seek His guidance in searching for your destined marriage partner. We live in this world of means and adopt means for everything we need. Marriage is no different. Adopt all possible means within the limits of Shariah to search for one’s spouse. With that, the following may be useful as it is tried and tested.

One may practice on something that is tried and tested, without regarding it as compulsory in Shari’ah:

1)     Recite Durood 500 times daily.

2)     The du’ of Musa ‘Alayhis Salaam that you have mentioned is also useful.

رَبِّ إِنّى لِما أَنزَلتَ إِلَىَّ مِن خَيرٍ فَقيرٌ
''O my Lord! Truly I am in need of whatever good You bestow on me''

Surah Al-Qasas, verse 24

Also, recite abundant istighfār as it is a means of resolving difficulties.  Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu A’layhi Wa Sallam said:

 مَنْ لَزِمَ الاِسْتِغْفَارَ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لَهُ مِنْ كُلِّ ضِيقٍ مَخْرَجًا وَمِنْ كُلِّ هَمٍّ فَرَجًا وَرَزَقَهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ يَحْتَسِبُ  (ابو داود, رقم الحديث 1518)

Whosoever does istighfar abundantly, Allah will create for him an exit from every narrow path, and will create for him an opening from every distress and will provide for him from where he could not imagine.

(Abu Dāwūd, Hadīth #1518)

Also perform salatul hājah, the method of performing salaatul hājah is that the one in need should:-

Properly perform wudhū

Pray two rakaā’t salāh

Praise Allah Taā’la

Send durūd on Nabi Sallallāhu Alayhi Wa Sallam

Recite the following dua:

لاإله إلا الله الحليم الكريم سبحان الله رب العرش العظيم الحمد لله رب العالمين أسئلك موجبات رحمتك وعزائم مغفرتك والغنيمة من كل بر والسلامة من كل إثم لا تدع لي ذنبا الا غفرته ولا هما إلا فرجته ولا حاجة هي لك رضا إلا قضيتها يا أرحم الراحمين

Translation: There there no god but Allah the Clement and Wise. There is no god but Allah the High and Mighty. Glory be to Allah, Lord of the Tremendous Throne.  All praise is to Allah, Lord of the worlds.  I ask you (O Allah) everything that leads to your mercy, and your tremendous forgiveness, enrichment in all good, and freedom from all sin.  Do not leave a sin of mine (O Allah), except that you forgive it, nor any concern except that you create for it an opening, nor any need in which there is your good pleasure except that you fulfill it, O Most Merciful!

(Tirmidhi, Hadith # 477)

And if circumstances do not permit the performance of two rakā’t salāt, then one should simply turn to Allah in humility and ask of his needs.

Most importantly, practice on Shari’ah, adopt Taqwa, and make dua to Allah to help you achieve your objective.
