Question:

 

Is it permissible to dry the face with a towel in ihram? As long as you don’t cover the face completely?

 

 

 

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

 

Answer:

 

In a normal circumstance, when a person, both males and females are in the state of ihram, they are not allowed to cover their faces.

 

However wiping the face with a towel will not be considered as covering the face as it is not used to wear and there is nothing attached to it to hold onto the face.

 

Therefore one who uses a towel to wipe their face in the state of ihram will not have to pay any penalties.

(وَلَنَا) حَدِيثُ «الْأَعْرَابِيِّ حِينَ وَقَصَتْ بِهِ نَاقَتُهُ فِي أَخَافِيقِ جِرْزَانٍ، وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ فَقَالَ – صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – لَا تُخَمِّرُوا رَأْسَهُ وَوَجْهَهُ»، وَفِي هَذَا تَنْصِيصٌ عَلَى أَنَّ الْمُحْرِمَ لَا يُغْطِي رَأْسَهُ وَوَجْهَهُ «، وَرَخَّصَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ – صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – لِعُثْمَانَ – رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ – حِينَ اشْتَكَتْ عَيْنُهُ فِي حَالِ الْإِحْرَامِ أَنْ يُغَطِّيَ وَجْهَهُ» فَتَخْصِيصُهُ حَالَةَ الضَّرُورَةِ بِالرُّخْصَةِ دَلِيلٌ عَلَى أَنَّ الْمُحْرِمَ مَنْهِيٌّ عَنْ تَغْطِيَةِ الْوَجْهِ

وَأَطْلَقَ فِي التَّغْطِيَةِ فَانْصَرَفَتْ إلَى الْكَامِلِ، وَهُوَ مَا يُغَطِّي بِهِ عَادَةً كَالْقَلَنْسُوَةِ وَالْعِمَامَةِ فَخَرَجَ مَا لَا يُغَطَّى بِهِ عَادَةً كَالطِّسْتِ وَالْإِجَّانَةِ وَالْعَدْلِ فَلَا شَيْءَ عَلَيْهِ، وَعَلَى هَذَا يُفَرَّعُ مَا فِي الظَّهِيرِيَّةِ مَا لَوْ دَخَلَ الْمُحْرِمُ تَحْتَ سِتْرِ الْكَعْبَةِ فَإِنْ كَانَ يُصِيبُ وَجْهَهُ وَرَأْسَهُ فَهُوَ مَكْرُوهٌ لَا شَيْءَ عَلَيْهِ، وَإِلَّا فَلَا بَأْسَ بِهِ وَظَاهِرُ مَا فِي الْمُتُونِ يَقْتَضِي أَنَّهُ لَا بُدَّ مِنْ تَغْطِيَةِ جَمِيعِ الرَّأْسِ فِي لُزُومِ الدَّمِ، وَمَا رَأَيْته رِوَايَةٌ، وَلِهَذَا لَمْ يُصَرِّحُوا بِحُكْمِ مَا دُونَهَا، وَإِنَّمَا الْمَنْقُولُ عَنْ الْأَصْلِ اعْتِبَارُ الرُّبْعِ، وَمَشَى عَلَيْهِ
