Question:

 

Is khilaal of the fingers done after washing the arms or after wiping the nape?

 

 

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

 

Answer:

 

Doing khilal of the fingers is from the sunnah acts of wudhu, it comes in the hadith:

 

عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ لَقِيطِ بْنِ صَبِرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ إِذَا تَوَضَّأْتَ فَخَلِّلِ الأَصَابِعَ

 

Asim bin Laqit bin Sabirah narrated from his father that the Prophet Muhammad said: “When performing Wudu go between the fingers.”1

 

The khilal of the fingers should be done after washing the hands, as stated by Imam Kasani, who mentions that khilal is an act of completing (washing) an obligatory part2, in this case, the hands.
