Question:

Sorry I have a question if you don’t mind I’m working currently at Qatar airways as a check in agent and I was wondering if sometimes by letting overweight bags go and not charging people would be something that gives me bad deeds or good deeds.

Answer:

It depends on your intention and the greater context of the situation. If you are allowing some overweight bags to go and not allowing others, that would not be fair for the people who do have to pay. If however, the aircraft has a lot of space and you are allowing everyone’s bags to go, that could be a good deed if your intention is to create ease for others. Letting bags go and not charging them without the permission of your supervisors may also be considered bad, since you are not doing your work with complete honesty. If however, you have been given leeway to let some bags go by the officials, then the answer would depend on the intention and circumstances as I mentioned above.

﴿والذين هم لأماناتهم وعهدهم﴾ لأمانتهم وعهدهم لأمانتهم مكى وسهل سمى الشئ المؤتمن عليه والمعاهد عليه أمانة وعهدًا ومنه قوله تعالى إِنَّ الله يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تُؤدُّواْ الأمانات إلى أهلها وإنما تؤدى العيون لا المعاني والمراد به العموم في كل ما ائتمنوا عليه وعوهدوا من جهة الله ﷿ ومن جهة الخلق ﴿راعون﴾ حافظون والراعي القائم على الشئ بحفظ وإصلاح كراعي الغنم

تفسير القرآن الكريم – المقدم ١٨١/‏١٠ 

قال تعالى: ﴿وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ * وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ﴾ [المعارج:٣٢ – ٣٣].

«وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ» قال ابن جرير: أي: لأمانات الله التي ائتمنهم عليها من فرائضه وأمانات عباده التي اؤتمنوا عليها، وعهودهم التي أخذها عليهم بطاعته فيما أمرهم به ونهاهم، وعهود عباده التي أعطاهم على ما أخذه لهم على نفسه، راعون؛ يرقبون ذلك ويحفظونه فلا يضيعونه، فهذا تعميم للأمانة.

فقوله: (والذين هم لأماناتهم) أي: جميع أنواع الأمانات، وسيدخل فيها أمانات الله التي ائتمنهم عليها، ومن ذلك الفرائض، والعهود التي أخذها عليهم بأن يطيعوه فيمتثلوا ما به أمر وينتهوا عما عنه نهى وزجر، فلا يضيعوها.

كذلك هم لأماناتهم وعهدهم مع الخلق كأمانات العباد التي يؤتمنون عليها، فإذا أعطاك أحدٌ أمانة أو ائتمنك على سر أو نحو ذلك، فينبغي أن تحفظه وترعاه، وكذلك عهود العباد التي بذلها لهم على ما عقده لهم على نفسه (راعون)، يرقبون ذلك ويحفظونه فلا يضيعونه.
