Question

Assalamu Alaikum warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh Imam.

Please don't ignore this question.
This is a very unusual question, but very important for many who still commit masturbation and watching pornography. 1) Will it be kufr to masturbate on a video in which actors pronounce the name of God when they engage in adultery? Is this a disrespect to God? is it kufr? 2) and when the actor's utter phrases insulting God. Is this contentment with kufr and fall into kufr?

Answer

Walaikum Salaam.

Let’s look at the above question by dividing it into a few parts.

  1. Masturbation

It has been written in ‘Ahsanul Fatawa’ (nearest meaning):

“Masturbation is not permissible and it’s a major sin. In the Qura’an and Ahadith there are places in where the prohibition and consequences are mentioned”.[1]

Furthermore, in regard to evidence, it has been stated quotations about prohibition from other books of Fiqh.

One of the points mentioned is:

Allah mentions in the Qura’an: who guard their private parts; except their spouses or their slave women, for then they are not blameworthy.[2]

Qadhi Thanaullah Pani Patni has mentioned in regards to the above in his tafseer (TafseerMazhari): “This verse indicates the prohibition of masturbation by using one's hands and this is the verdict of the Scholars.”[3]

Therefore, from the above, we come to know the prohibition of masturbation.

  1. Pornography

Allah Almighty says in the Qur'an:

“Tell the faithful men to cast down their looks and to guard their private parts. That is more decent for them. Allah is indeed well aware of what they do. And tell the faithful women to cast down their looks and to guard their private parts, and not to display their charms.”[4]

Pornography and fornication are major sins and can lead to numerous evil acts and sins. That’s why Allah Almighty has mentioned in the Qur'an:

“Do not approach fornication. It is indeed an indecency and an evil way.”[5]

In the above verse, Allah Almighty is indicating not to approach fornication. This means, to stay away from anything that can lead to fornication and pornography.

There are health and spiritual consequences with addiction such as pornography. We should try to control our desires and at the same time seek Allah’s help to strengthen our Imaan and to protect us from the ploy of the Devil.

  1. Insulting Allah

There is a Usool and a ruling in Fiqh:

“A person sees something happening in front of him and doesn’t disapprove but rather remains silent, this will be counted as silent approval and the person is happy with this”. [6]

From the above, we can gauge, if a person hears someone insulting Allah and he approves and does not challenge it, unfortunately, he will fall under the category of Kufr.

Therefore:

  • Unfortunately, a person who insults or mocks Allah will be counted as a disbeliever.
  • Recite the Shahadah and Kalimah again.
  • The person must repent to Allah with sincerity and make the firm intention of not doing something like that again. Remember, by repenting Allah forgive all the sins regardless of how severe where they.

Allah SWT says in the Qur'an:

قُل يا عِبادِيَ الَّذينَ أَسرَفوا عَلىٰ أَنفُسِهِم لا تَقنَطوا مِن رَحمَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغفِرُ الذُّنوبَ جَميعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفورُ الرَّحيمُ

Say [that Allah declares,] ‘O My servants who have committed excesses against their own souls, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed Allah will forgive all sins. Indeed He is the All-forgiving, the All-merciful.[7]

After asking Allah for forgives, strive to do good as much as possible.

Only Allah knows best.
