بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Lying is permissible in three instances:

  1. In war
  2. Reconciling between two disputing parties
  3. Husband lying to the wife or vice versa to create love and harmony

Sayyidah Umm Kulthum Bint Uqbah (Radiallahu Anha) narrates that she heard the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam) say, “He is not a liar who reconciles between two people and narrates something good or says something good”.

(Sahih Bukhari p.371 v.1)

Sayyidah Asma Bint Yazeed (Radiallahu Anha) narrates that the Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam) said, “It is not permissible to tell lies except in three cases: When a man speaks to his wife in a way to please her; lying in war, and lying in order to reconcile between people”.
