Question:
Assalamu Alaikum, I am from India and am currently residing in Italy for my education. Recently I had gone to get my fingerprint registered for the documentation purpose. When the time of the registration came the fingerprint was registered maybe by an middle-aged woman, I didn’t see her face properly, she was wearing a very thin glove and she took my fingers to register the fingerprint properly, I couldn’t speak for myself to ask for another person to register it, I felt very remorse even when she was registering and also after that and prayed salatut tawbah and made intention to fast to fast to follow a good deed after a bad one.
I know the condition of tawbah is that:
- To stop doing the sin
- To regret doing the sin
- To resolve to never return to the sin
I have resolved that I will try my best to refrain from the sin but I cant do that alone without the help of Allah. My question is regarding the third condition if I fulfilled it or not, because I believe that whatever good deed I do and whatever sins I abstain from is only with the Hidayat and Nusrat of Allah and I am very weak on my own and cant abstain from any sin so I cant say for sure that I will not commit that sin again.
It will also be very helpful if you can guide me to a shaykh/mufti with whom I can be in contact because in my day to day life I become very confuse regarding what I am doing and if it is accordance with Islam or not.
Also do Dua that Allah makes me among the strong believers and make me firm upon the religion like how He made the Sahabas firm upon the Religion.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
We pray that Allah makes you firm in your faith and grants you strength to overcome any challenges you may face. May He bless you with unwavering resolve and steadfastness in your belief, so that you may navigate through life’s trials with unwavering conviction and guide you towards righteousness in all aspects of your life.
It is important that we understand that humans are fallible beings. We all make mistakes, and it is part of our nature to err. However, what sets us apart is our ability to recognise our faults and strive towards improvement.
Anas R.A reported Allah’s messenger S.A.W as saying, “All the sons of Adam are sinners, but the best of sinners are those who are given to repentance.” [Mishkat al-Masabih, 2341]
If we were perfect, there would be no need for repentance or forgiveness. But, it is our tendency to err that allows humble beings such as ourselves to constantly remember Allah and seek His mercy.
Therefore, even if we make the same mistakes again, it does not mean that our initial tawbah was not sincere or that Allah will not forgive us again.
When a person truly repents, they acknowledge their mistakes and seek forgiveness from Allah with a genuine heart. They feel remorseful for their actions, make a firm intention to change, and take practical steps to rectify their wrongdoings. They also strive to avoid repeating the same mistakes in the future; however, this does not mean that they will never make the same mistake again because we are not perfect. And just as our imperfections and sins are countless, Allah’s forgiveness knows no bounds, and His mercy is limitless.
Lastly, the situation you have described was something out of your control, so there is no need to blame yourself for it, and you will not be sinful either because “verily actions are according to their intention and every person will get (rewarded) according to what he has intended.” [Sahih al-Bukhari, 54]
[Sahih al-Bukhari, 54]
Narrated ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “verily actions are according to their intention and every person will get rewarded according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for Allah and His Messanger, then his emigration was for Allah and His Messanger. And whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for.”
Only Allah (عز و جل) knows best.
