Question:
When judging excused impurities, is it based on the original amount when it first occurred, or the amount remaining at the time of assessment?
As in the Hanafi school, certain impurities are excused when small. If a small amount of impurity that is more than the excused amount initially, such as small amount of urine on a carpet, dried and completely disappeared over a long period such that it is less than the excused amount , would it now be considered excused?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
What matters is the amount of impurity at the time, not the amount of impurity at some point in the past. If the amount of impurity is more than the size of a dirham (approx. 2 cm diameter, similar to a 50p coin), then it will be deemed impure. If it becomes less than the size of a dirham, then it is now excused [1].
However, it should be noted that to perform Salah in such clothing or on such an area is still Makruh. Thus, if one is able to do so without difficulty then they should wash it regardless [2].
