Question

 

 

Is saying ‘Oh my Jesus’ when shocked or surprised shirk?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

 

 

Answer

 

 

The reason why Christians say O my Jesus is because they think of him (peace be upon him) as God. Muslims say O Allah, Allah o akbar or Alhamdu lillah in shock or surprise.

 

One must be very careful of uttering words of shirk and those words in which there is a hint of it. This is because we should not imitate non-muslims in things which go against our deen and cause the severe displeasure of Allah.

 

Allah says in Quran:  –

And do not call besides Allah on that which can neither benefit you nor harm you, for if you do then surely you will be of the wrong doers.[i]

Sura 10:106
