Question:

When the Muqtadi comes up from ruku does he say ‘rabana lakal hamd”, if so, what does he say when standing after? What does the imam say when standing after ruku?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

In Salah (prayer), every action and phrase have specific rulings. According to the Hanafi school of thought, different phrases are recited by the Imam (prayer leader) and the Muqtadi (follower) during different parts of the prayer.

According to the Hanafi madhhab, when the Imam comes up from ruku, he should say:

سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ

This phrase is said while rising, not after standing fully, the Muqtadi (follower) responds with رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ.

After rising from ruku, the person stands upright briefly before going into sujood. According to the Hanafi school, there is no additional dhikr or supplication during this standing time, beyond what has already been said.

This reflects the discipline and clarity of the Hanafi method in maintaining the structure of Salah. May Allah accept your prayers and reward you for your eagerness to follow the Sunnah properly.
