Question:

If someone is vaping just before Sehri ends and the liquid flavour travels into the mouth before Sehri ends and they can taste it when Fajr begins and Sehri ends, is their fast broken and do they need to do expiation, or is this similar to the taste of food after Sehri.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

In the Quran Allah says (Surah Baqarah Ayah 187)

“Eat and drink until the white thread of the dawn becomes distinct from the black thread; then complete the fast up to the night”

From this verse, we can understand that the correct time for fasting is fixed, and all eating and drinking will be unlawful after that.

However if after the suhoor, a person finds the taste of what was consumed in the mouth during the day will not break the fast to such an extent that a small morsel of food, the size of a chickpea that is in between the teeth, if swallowed will not break the fast.

Therefore one’s fast will not break and there will be no expiation of the fast if a trace of food is found after suhoor. But to clear the doubt, one should gargle the mouth properly before the time of sehri ends.
