Question:
What are the procedures to establish a Mosque (just a small place to pray)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
A Masjid is a sanctified area in which the ownership of that land has been given up so it becomes an endowment. Meaning that it has become Waqf. Thus, the reward of any Salah which is performed there would now be multiplied 25-27 times. This is not the same as a Musalla, Jamaat Khana, prayer room, etc. where congregational prayers may take place but as they are not an endowment the reward would not be the same. An actual Masjid is that area or building which has been dedicated solely for the purpose of the worship of Allāh Ta’ālā, recitation of Qur’ān, His remembrance and etc.
Once an area or building has been endowed as a Masjid, it will remain a Masjid until the last day. It cannot be repurposed for anything else. It is the place where Allāh Ta’ālā’s mercy descends. It is forbidden to have intercourse, urinate and defecate above or below it because the reach of the Masjid continues to the area above and below it. Thus, no impurity can enter into it. It is prohibited for a male in major impurities and a menstruating woman to enter it also. [Radd Ul-Muhtār; volume 2, page 427-429] [1]
Only Allāh Ta’ālā knows best.
