Is it permitted for men to wear sterling silver as opposed to pure silver? Sterling silver contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. This is used to strengthen the silver. Please explain in detail with references.
In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.
Men are only permitted to wear silver rings, which weighs less than 4.86 grams. (Ahsanul Fatawa p.69 v.8) Therefore, in the Hanafi Madhab it will be considered Makruh Tahrimi to wear such a ring, which is more than 4.86 grams. (Fatawa Hindiyyah p.335 v.5)
With regards to your question, if the 92.5% silver on the ring is equivalent to 4.86 grams of silver then it will be permissible for men to wear such rings. Otherwise, it will be considered Makruh Tahrimi.
