Salam, I am thinking of getting into the study of pathology and histology soon… which involves investigating human organs for signs of disease or cause of death. But now someone told me its haram coz if it’s a dead persons organ i shouldn’t be using it for anything it should be in the grave with the person to rest??? But i don’t think there is anything wrong with it coz who knows maybe investigating the cause of death may help others survive.
In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.
Shaikh Khalid Saifullah Rahmaani has viewed the following ruling through a couple of angles. In one way it should be impermissible to use human organs for research as it is against the honour and respect of a human. Allah (SWA) has commanded the body to be honoured and respected. Allah (SWA) says in the Holy Qur’an:
“We have shaped mankind in the best mould.” (Surah Teen v.4)
In another verse he says, “We bestowed the progeny of Adam specific honour and sanctity.” (Surah Bani Israeel v.70)
In Al-Hidayah it is stated, “The skin of a man is not permitted for trade or to derive benefit due to the sanctity of man.” (p.55 v.3)
However in another angle there is a need for students to know and understand the peculiarities of the human organs, thus Shaikh Khalid Saifullah concluded by saying that it will be permissible. (See Jaded Fiqhi Masaail p.319 v.1)
