What is a Musallah

What is a Musallah

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Musallah literally means a place where prayers are performed or where congregations of prayers are held at a temporary place.

Another differentiating factor is that a Musallah has not been made an endowment or not yet intended to become a permanent Masjid.

A Masjid is a sanctified area.  A place, which has been permanently dedicated to Allah (SWA) for the sake of prayer, recitation and His remembrance. Any land that has been dedicated for the sake of congregation prayers will also be called a Masjid.  (Tahtawi p.172 v.4) Once a Masjid is erected it will always be a Masjid.  It cannot return to the property of the community.  (Raddul Muhtar p.371 v.3)
