Question:
If a person had Qadha Salaahs to perform and then becomes a Murtad – نعوذ بالله – and thereafter accepts Islam again. Is it still necessary to make the Qadha Salaahs that he missed before becoming a Murtad?

Answer:
Riddah (Apostasy) is an extremely grave matter and a person who has fallen into it must renew his Imaan immediately, make sincere tawbah and firmly return to the obligations of Deen.
The question here is not about the Salaah missed during the period of riddah. Rather, it is about Salaah which became due upon him before riddah, while he was still Muslim. In the Hanafi madhhab, those missed Salaah remain binding, because they had already become established in his dhimmah (responsibility) as a legal obligation when he was still a Muslim. Riddah does not erase this outstanding obligation [1] [2].
In conclusion, it will be necessary for a person who had Qadha Salaahs before Riddah to perform them after accepting Islam again.
May Allah protect us from Riddah and help us to fulfill our obligations towards him.
