Question:
Salaam Alaykum,
I pray you are well. I obtained a kullah from my husband a year and half ago. I had a severe fall 6 weeks after marrying him and went into depression due to my condition as I was an invalid for 6 months.
My husband didn’t want to divorce me.
My husband messaged the Shariah with this message:
*I give (me) a full and final divorce.*
Is this classed as 3 divorces or 1? My husband and I would like to get back together with a fresh contract. Are you able to clarify for me please?

Answer:
We acknowledge receipt of your query. The answer to your question is as follows:
Khul’ah, albeit a wife-initated divorce, is not deemed valid nor complete unless the husband accepts to release his wife from marriage in exchange for either a monetary compensation or the returning of the mahr that was given to her.
If the husband refuses to divorce the wife despite her seeking khul’ah, she may seek the intervention of the Qadhi or a Mahkam al-Shar’iah (Shari’ah court).
After having surveyed your query, it seems to us like the Shari’ah court has handled your case and you’ve been granted a khul’ah through their ruling.

وهو أن تَفْتَدِيَ المرأة نفسها بمال ليَخلَعها به، فإذا فعلا لزمها المال ووقعت تطليقة بائنة،
