Is it allowed to keep buggies (small birds) at home in a cage or is it makruh?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
It is permissible to keep birds as a pet, as long one is not harming them and takes care of the birds.
The brother of Anas ibn Malik (ra) had a little bird and the Prophet (PBUH) used to ask about his little bird. Anas ibn Malik said: The Prophet (PBUH) was the best of all the people in character. I had a brother called Abu ‘Umayr, who, I think, had been newly weaned. Whenever he (that child) was brought to the Prophet (PBUH) the Prophet (PBUH) used to say, "O Abu ‘Umayr! What did Nughayr do?"
Wakī tells that Nughayr was the bird of the brother of Anas ibn Malik that he kept as a pet.
