Question:

Are we allowed to say Good Luck or Bad Luck?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

As Muslims, we believe in destiny and we reject the concept of luck. Luck is something random and by chance whereas destiny is that which is ordained and written for you, they are both diametrical opposites. Belief in destiny that good and bad is all from Allah Ta’ala  is 1 of the articles of faith. Denial of destiny and belief in luck is detrimental to ones faith. Saying good luck without the belief in luck and without the belief in rejecting destiny would also be wrong, it would be desirable to say, “may the help of Allah Ta’ala be with you”. It is very virtuous to make du’a as such for another Muslim.

Only Allah knows best
