Question:
Peace be upon you
The question I have is whether it would be permissible to combine the Zohar and Asr prayers at the time of Zohar as a dental student. Appointments in the afternoon from 1:30 PM can last up to 3 hours, making it impossible to pray Asr during the winter months. By policy, we are not allowed to leave the patient while they are in the chair due to safety and we are not allowed to get someone to take our place. This is only the case while learning in years 2 and 3 of the course.
Would there be a dispensation from another school of thought that could be applied in this situation for the combination of these prayers? Of course, in the situation where one combines the prayers and then finishes early still within the time of Asr, one would repeat the Salah in its time.

Answer:
In Principle, combining two sallahs is not allowed except superficially (sooratan) in the Hanafi mazhab, where the first sallah is delayed to the last time and the second sallah is brought forward to its first time in such a way that both sallahs will be performed in their appropriate time.[1]
Some jurists give permission to combine the sallah in one time, but its not the preferred view of the Hanafi mazhab. A combination will only be possible superficially and not literally.[2]
