Question:
A person is travelling from A to B which is 69km.
Then he travels from B to C which is on his return but a little off the path.
Does the distance between B and C which is technically on his return journey count?

Answer:
A musaafir is a traveller who prays qasr (2 rakaats in place of 4). The minimum distance a person is to travel in order to be classed as a musaafir is 48 miles / 78 km. Therefore, the journey to B does not make a person a musaafir.
If the distance from B to C is also not 48 miles, then he would not be a musaafir when undertaking that journey too. This is because the distance is “only for one direction, not the total distance of going and returning.” [1]

مسافتِ سفر میں اعتبار جانے کا ہے یا آنے کا بھی
سوال: یہاں سے ضلع صدر جانے کے دو راستے ہیں، ایک ۲۵ کوس اور دوسرا ۲۸ کوس۔ جو کوئی شخص ۲۸ کوس والے راستے سے جائے اور ۲۵ کوس والے راستے سے واپس آئے، تو کیا اس پر واپسی میں قصر ہے؟ یا نہیں؟ اور جو ۲۵ کوس والے راستے سے جاوے اور ۲۸ کوس والے راستے سے آوے، تو اس پر کیا حکم ہے؟
الجواب حامداً ومصلیاً
قصر نماز کے لیے تین یوم کی مسافت کا سفر ضروری ہے، اور یہ مسافت صرف ایک طرف کی ہے، جانے اور آنے کی مجموعی مسافت نہیں۔ پس صورتِ مسئولہ میں دونوں راستوں میں سے کسی ایک سے آنا جانا ہو، دونوں سے دونوں صورتوں میں قصر جائز نہیں، البتہ اگر کسی جگہ کے دور استے ہوں ایک مسافت قصر ہو اور دوسرا نہ ہو تو جس راستہ سے سفر اختیار کرے گا اس کا اعتبار ہوگا آنے میں جانے میں بھی
