Question:
Is it Fard Ayn to know all The Fard, Wajib and Sunnah acts of Prayer or is it Fard Ayn to know the Fard acts, Wajib to know the Wajib acts, and Sunnah to know the Sunnah acts?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
It was narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Seeking knowledge is a duty upon every Muslim…” (Sunan Ibn Majah, 224)
In the commentary of the above Hadeeth, Imam Baydawi stated that the “knowledge” being referred to includes knowing how to pray. It has also been stated that one should know the things that invalidate actions. Based on this, it is Fard Ayn to know the Fard and Waajib acts of Salaah because such knowledge is needed to perform Salaah (Shurooh Sunan Ibn Majah, Page 155).
Only Allah knows best.
