Question:

A child (9/10 years old) never had a period but had yellow and brown discharge for two days then it stopped. Then they saw it again. Does this count as haidh?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Menstruation (Haidh) specifically refers to blood that comes out of the womb for a minimum of 3 days. Anything less than that is considered Istihaadhaa and would not count as Haidh (Badai Al Sanai, Vol 1, Pg 151). It occurs from the age of 9 and ends at menopause and includes the colours yellow and brown. The minimum number of days for bleeding to be considered Haidh is 3 days and nights (Fatawa Hindiyya, Vol 1, Pg 41).

As it was discharged, it would be best to speak to a doctor to check whether it was blood from the womb or something else. If it was, it would be considered Haidh.

Only Allah knows best.
