Question:
I’m a Hanafi and suffer from psychosis which leads me to talk with the voices and laugh quitely sometimes in salah. If I laugh even quitely does my salah count and does talking to the voices invalidate my prayers?
In the name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Talking and laughing aloud in Salah invalidate it. Laughing aloud in Salah also has the additional consequence of breaking the Wudhu. Salah will need to be repeated. [Al-Bināyah: vol. 2, pg. 482; vol. 1, pg. 235] [1] [2]
Smiling does not break the Salah. Laughing and talking will. Due to your illness, it may make performing Salah difficult for you, In shā Allāh, Allāh Ta’ālā will reward you for your efforts. It will be safer for you to always attempt to complete your Salah’s at their start time so you have ample time if you need to repeat them.
Only Allāh Ta’ālā knows best.
