Question:

 

Will all animals and insects be resurrected without exception on the day of Judgement including ants, maggots etc?

 

 

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

 

Answer:

 

The understanding of the scholars is that no matter how seemingly insignificant and minute, by the decree of Allah, all souls shall be revived on the day of judgement until even a fly will be resurrected. The resurrection of animals and insects is not based on accountability for their deeds, rather it is a means to fulfil Allah’s promise of justice and to express the severity of the day of judgment: 

 

 

وَنَضَعُ ٱلْمَوَٰزِينَ ٱلْقِسْطَ لِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ فَلَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌۭ شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ وَإِن كَانَ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّةٍۢ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ أَتَيْنَا بِهَا ۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِنَا حَـٰسِبِينَ ٤٧

“We set up the scales of justice for the Day of Judgment, so no soul will be wronged in the least. And ˹even˺ if a deed is the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as a ˹vigilant˺ Reckoner.” (Surah Anbiya, Verse 47).

[Surah 3: Verse 185]

كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗ وَإِنَّمَا تُوَفَّوْنَ أُجُورَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۖ فَمَن زُحْزِحَ عَنِ ٱلنَّارِ وَأُدْخِلَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ فَقَدْ فَازَ ۗ وَمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَآ إِلَّا مَتَـٰعُ ٱلْغُرُورِ ١٨٥

Every soul will taste death. And you will only receive your full reward on the Day of Judgment. Whoever is spared from the Fire and is admitted into Paradise will ˹indeed˺ triumph, whereas the life of this world is no more than the delusion of enjoyment.

 

 

[Surah 21: Verse 47]

[Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Surah Takwir] 

(واذا الوحوش حشرت) اي جمعت. كما قال تعالى: (وما من دابة في الأرض ولا طائر يطير بجناحيه الا امم امثالكم ما فرطنا في الكتاب من شيء ثم إلى ربهم يحشرون) قال ابن عباس: يحشر كل شيء حتى الذباب

(واذا الوحوش حشرت) كل شيء من دواب مما لا يستأنس فهو وحش، والجمع الوحش الوحوش، وحشرت جمعت من كل ناحية، قال قتادة يحشر كل شيء حتى الذباب للقصاص. قال المعتزلة: إن الله تعالى يحشر الحيوانات كلها في ذلك اليوم ليعوضها على آلامها التي وصلت اليها في الدنيا بالموت والقتل وغير ذلك فإذا عرضت على تلك الآلام، فإن شاء الله أن يبقى بعضها في الجنة إذا كان مستحسنا فعل، وإن شاء الله أن يفنيه أفناه على ما جاء به الخير، وأما أصحابنا فعندهم أنه لا يجب على الله شيء بحكم الاستحقاق ولكنه تعالى يحشر الوحوش كلها فيقتص للجماء من القرناء، ثم يقال لها موتي فتموت والغرض من ذكر هذه القصة هنا وجوه (احدهما) انه تعالى إذا كان يوم القيامة يحشر كل الحيوانات اظهار للعدل، فكيف يجوز مع هذا أن لا يحشر المكلفين من الإنس والجن؟ (الثاني) إنها تجتمع في موقف القيامة مع شدة نفرتها عن الناس في الدنيا وتبددها في الصحارى فدل هذا على ان اجتماعها الى الناس ليس إلا من هول ذلك اليوم (والثالث) ان هذه الحيوانات بعضها غذاء للبعض ثم إنها في ذلك اليوم تجتمع ولا يتعرض بعضها لبعض، وما ذلك إلا شدة هول ذلك اليوم.
