Question:

How many Kalimahs are there and the words for Imaan Mujmal

Answer:

Bismillah

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

The Kalimahs came into existence to facilitate the easy memorising and learning of Aqeedah (beliefs). The scholars formulated them for reasons of easiness. Therefore, the number could vary from five to six.

Imaan Mujmal is:

AMANTUBIL-LAHI KAMA HUWA BIASMA'IHI WA SIFATIHI WA QABILTU JAMI'A AHKAMIHI.

I affirm my faith in Allah as He is with all His Names and Attributes and I accept all of His Commands.

Saaiduna Ibn Abbas raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) narrates that Saaiduna Jibraeel Alayhis Salaam once asked the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) “Tell me what is Iman?” The Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) replied: “Iman is to believe in Allah, the Day of Judgment, His (Allah’s) Angels, Books and Prophets and to believe in life after death; and to believe in Paradise and the Fire, and the setting up of the Mizan (scales) to weigh the deeds; and to believe in the Divine Decree, the good and the bad of it (all). Saaiduna Jibraeel Alayhis Salaam then asked him: “If I do all this will I be with Iman?” The Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: "When you have done all of this, you will be having Iman." (Musnad Ahmad)
