Question:
A man uttered 2 Talaqs to his wife. He then said to her You are still my wife until I give you the 3rd. Will this statement qualify as him having made Rujoo’?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Rujoo is only permissible in the case of a Talaq Rajee’ (unambiguous divorce).1
The words of Ruju should clearly indicate Rujoo’.2 The words “You are still my wife” does indicate Rujoo’.

2 قال العَيْنِيُّ مِنَ الحَنَفِيَّةِ ما نَصُّهُ: “والرَّجْعَةُ أنْ يَقُول لِلَّتِي طَلَّقَها طَلْقَةً، أوْ طَلْقَتَيْنِ: راجَعْتُكِ بِالخِطابِ لَها، أوْ راجَعْتُ امْرَأتِي بِالغَيْبَةِ، وهَذا صَرِيحٌ فِي الرَّجْعَةِ، وكَذا إذا قال: رَدَدْتُكِ أوْ أمْسَكْتُكِ».
