Question
Assalamualakum,
Are we allowed to consume meat that has been slaughtered by a shia?
If not why? (as we are permitted to consume from that slaughtered by People of the Book) Additionally, we do not know exactly who is slaughtering the animal except that the company is certified halal. Are we required to contact the arbitrary? Do we abstain from butchers that we know are shia?
Jazakallah khair
Answer
The Shi’a sect contains many subsects of which the majority are deviated. The Rawafidh, who deem it permissible to kill Muslims, take possession of their wealth, and classify the sahabah to be disbelievers, they take the ruling of apostates and deviants. [1] Shi’as, in general, have beliefs that entail shirk and go against the agreed upon the belief of the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah. That said, eating the meat slaughtered by the people of shirk and apostates is not permissible. [2] As an exception, the Shi’as that only believe that ‘Ali (may Allah have mercy on him) deserved to be the first khalifah, since that belief does not entail shirk or apostasy, such Shi’as will not be labeled as disbelievers and eating meat slaughtered by them would be permissible. Due to meat slaughtering being a delicate issue, it’s best if one stays wary of any doubtful butchers and the Shi’as in general. In case of doubt regarding their beliefs, it’s highly encouraged that one should clarify before consuming their meat.
And Allah knows best
