Question:

I would like to know if listening to nasheeds containing words of dhikr is allowed. And similarly, am I allowed to sing the dhikr within my own home, if it helps me to remember it daily? (without the use of any instruments, using just the voice only)

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Nasheeds are like poetry, they are considered to be virtuous as long as it contains good meaning and words, such as the teachings of the prophet or praises of Allah. To listen or read nasheed with dhikr and with the remembrance/praises of Allah is good and will be permissible to say.

The Prophet Sallallahu Alahi Wasalm said: Indeed some poetry is wisdom. (Tirmidhi – hadith 2844)
