Question:

As far as I know, a Muslim must not wear any clothes with the image of a cross as the cross represents Christianity.  Besides the traditional cross, another symbol of Christianity is the so-called Saltire (a cross in the shape of the letter X). Does it mean that we cannot wear any clothes with the image of the letter “X”?  Can I buy and wear a T-shirt having tag inside of it defining the size of a T-shirt like “eXtra large”? Will it be sinful? It contains the letter “X”  (in the word “extra”) which is the shape of X. Also many tags on T-shirts nowadays are having instructions on how to wash can contain the letter X in some words.  Tags are not visible as they are inside of a T-shirt.

In the name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

A simple solution for your question is to remove these tags if they are causing doubt for you.

It is impermissible to keep images of any living object whether that be in the form of pictures, photos, wall hangings, on our clothes and etc. Religious symbols of other religions must be avoided also.

Regarding the letter x on the tags, there is no need for you to worry about it as no one will assume that the x is referring to the Saltire symbol.
