Question:
My ankle is sore so am I allowed to wear some kind of bandage or ankle strap while in ihram?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
In principle, it is not permissible to wear sewn clothing whilst in the state of ihram and if one does so then one must expiate for it.
He should not wear a shirt, a turban, trousers, a head cloak or leather socks except if he can find no slippers, he then may wear leather socks after cutting off what might cover the ankles. And he should not wear clothes which are scented with saffron or Wars (kinds of Perfumes)
(Bukhari – hadith 1542)
However, when it is necessary to wear something like a bandage or knee brace due to pain then it would be permissible, the ruling is derived from an opinion which mentions that wearing langot due to necessity is permissible. For this, expiation is not necessary.
