Question:
If someone ate something haram or drank alcohol e.g. who is not Muslim can you share a vape with them?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Human saliva is pure. Thus when sharing a utensil with them one can consider their mouth as being pure. However, if one is certain that they took something impure in their mouth at the moment then you should avoid sharing a utensil with them. (Hashiyat Tahtaawi, pg 29) [1]
Regarding using a vape which is known as E-cigarette we have to take into consideration the substance used in it as vapour. If the substance used in the E-cigarette is a normal artificial flavour and not nicotine, then it is less harmful. However, if the substance used is made from nicotine (tobacco) then this is harmful to the body and not permissible to use.
Allah states in the Quran; “And do not kill ˹each other or˺ yourselves. Surely Allah is ever Merciful to you” (Quran, 4:29)[2]
Thus, it would not be permissible to use an E-cigarette we such substance that would be harmful to one’s health.
