Question:

Should we face ourselves towards Qibla during wudhu?

Answer:

In The Name Of Allah, The Most-Merciful, The Most Kind

Adherence and practice of our Deen is the only way to win success in this world and in the next. We have been commanded with Fardh acts which we are not allowed to abandon. Other acts such as Sunnat and Nafil acts increase our closeness to Allah and shows our love for him by us practising such deeds which are not compulsory upon us but we do them solely to win his pleasure.

The compulsory pillars of Wudhu are four:

  1. Washing of the face
  2. Washing of both forearms/hands including the elbows
  3. Washing of both feet including the ankles
  4. Wiping the wet hands over a quarter of the head[1]

One would notice that usually a person would not limit himself or herself to the four Fardh of wudhu but would rather enhance their Wudhu with many Sunnat and Mustahab acts.

Facing the Qibla during Wudhu is from such acts that the Prophet (s.a.w.) practised but did not emphasize. If a person leaves it out, he will not be sinful or blameworthy and if that person practices it then it will be a source of extra reward. Such an act is categorized as the Adaab (etiquettes) or Mustahab (preferable acts) of Wudhu.[2]
