Question

Assalamualaikum

I have read that a silver ring for a man should not weigh more than 4.35 grams. If a man was to wear a ring which is heavier would this be haram?

Answer:

It is not permissible for men to adorn themselves with gold or silver, except through the use of a ring made of silver. As for its weight, the Prophet SAW is reported to have said to one of his companions, “Make it (the ring) from silver and do not let it exceed a mithqāl.”[1] Therefore the silver of the ring (not including the stone) should not exceed 4.86 grams (one mithqāl) in weight, as it would be impermissible and sinful to do so if it exceeds the stipulated weight.[2]
