Question:

Someone was reading his tashahhud and went up to the next rakah whilst completing the tashahhud. Does he have to make sajdah sahw, since he has not complete reading the tashahhud in sitting position?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

If a person began standing up for the third rakat before completing the recitation of the Tashahhud, then the ruling depends on whether the amount of Tashahhud that is wajib was completed while still in the sitting posture. The obligation is to sit for the duration in which the Tashahhud can be recited [1]. If he sat for that required duration and then continued the remaining words while rising, his prayer is valid and Sajdah al-Sahw is not necessary. However, if he stood up before remaining seated for the minimum duration of the Tashahhud, he has omitted a wajib and Sajdah al-Sahw becomes necessary [2].

Therefore, the consideration is not merely whether every word was completed while seated, but whether the required sitting equal to the duration of Tashahhud was fulfilled.
