Question:

Asalamuakaikum.

Hazrat,

I wanted to confirm my routine in Ramadan has been permissible the whole time. A saathi today sort of distracted, and placed doubt in my heart as were discussing why the 'Ulema are not unified in having one timetable for sehri.

I follow the sehri timetable of one Hanafi/Deobandi mosque because it makes life easier for me, but I break my fast, and perform Taraweeh with another Hanafi/Deobandi mosque because that's where I graduated. Is this permissible? For me it's no different performing salah with a mosque where the Jamat time is easiest.

The saathi was claiming, one should follow the mosque in both sehri/Taraweeh, that he considers his local mosque? Surely this is aprincipal on good faith, but not mandatory? I would appreciate your input.

Jazak'Allah!

Answer

بسم الله الرحمن الرحي

Waalaikum salaam

Firstly,  Allah says in the quran“وَأَنَّٱلْمَسَٰجِدَلِلَّهِفَلَاتَدْعُوا۟مَعَٱللَّهِأَحَدًا

“And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.” (Surah Al-Jinn : v.18)

A person can read his salaah in whichever masjid he wishes to.

Secondly, there is no significance ofreading salah in one masjid over another except for three masajid which the prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) has specified to be the following: masjidul haram, masjidunnabawi and masjidulaqsa, thus a person can read in any masjid.

Thirdly, the ulamas have differed in the matter of the timing of fajrsalaah, some have chosen 15 degrees and some have chosen 18 degrees, hence the differences in fajr timing which also affects the time of sehri. You are to follow whichever one your heart is comfortable with. However, this does not have anythingto do with maghrib and taraweehsalaah, so you can read fajr in one masjid and do iftari and maghrib in another masjid if that is convenient for you.

Only Allah knows best.
