The Beast

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Allah (SWA) in the Holy Quran has said

“And when the word will come to fall upon them, We will bring forth for them a beast from the earth who will speak to them that the human beings (i.e. the infidels) did not believe in our verses.”   (Surah Noml v.82)

It is reported in Musnad Ahmad on the authority of Saaiduna Huzaifah Radiallahu Anhu that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said that Doomsday would not come until the following ten signs had been witnessed:

  1. Appearance of the Sun from the west
  2. Smoke
  3. The Beast coming from out of the earth
  4. Yajuj and Majuj
  5. Descent of Saaiduna Isa Alayhis Salam
  6. Dajjal

7, 8, 9.   Three lunar eclipses together – one in the west, the second in the east and the third in the Arabian Peninsula

  1. A fire that will emerge from the Gulf of Aden and drive everyone towards the plains of mahshar.

This beast will be extra ordinary. It will suddenly emerge from the ground.  Ibn Kathir has reported in a lengthy hadith on the authority of Saaiduna Talha Ibn Umar through Abu Dawud Tayalisi that this beast will emerge in Makkah from the Mount of Safa and after cleaning the dust from its head will reach at a point between the Black Stone and Maqam Ibrahim.  Seeing this creature people will start running away.  Only one group of people will stay behind.  Then the beast will make their faces glitter like the stars.  After that it will go out into the world and put a sign of infidelity on the face of every infidel.

Shaikh Jalal Uddin Mahalli (RA) has said that after the appearance of the Beast the obligation of inviting others to do good deeds and forbidding them from evil will cease to apply.  And no infidel will convert to Islam after this.

Saaiduna Ibn Abbas Radiallahu Anhu has reported which is corroborated by a narration of Saaiduna Ali Radiallahu Anhu that the Beast will converse with people in a normal manner, such as the people do among themselves.   (Maariful Quran p.616-p.617 v.6)
